Getting sash window refurbishment can become very costly. Although it will cost a lot, you still have to have broken sash fixed or replaced if you want your windows to work right. Broken sash can also lower the value of your real estate property. If a buyer notices defective sash or windows that will give him reason to negotiate for a lower price.

Refurbishing defective or broken windows is costly but you have to either have it fixed or simply replace the window frame. Depending on which country you reside in or which city, costs of refurbishing sash windows will vary. You can make an estimate based on what needs to be done.

Take into consideration labor costs in your city, the style of window you have, materials and other miscellaneous expenses. Your carpenter may also need to spend on collecting the necessary materials himself from hardware stores and spend on incidental things like getting rid of the waste.

Refurbishing windows on one side of a wall can take one to five days. Now multiply that to how many windows you want refurbished in the whole house. The labor alone will cost an arm and a leg. You are not even counting the cost of materials there yet.

Consider the cost of replacing casements, removing glass, having them installed again and possibly replacing glass that are damaged in the process of repairing these types of windows. Your carpenter may also have to repaint some areas that have paint scraped off during the refurbishment.

If your windows are old then the glass and other parts of the window frame may likely be damaged during refurbishing. Even the glass may have to be replaced because old glass and new glass look different. Of course you would want all your windows to match.

Refurbishing these types of screens is labor intensive and costly. More expenses may be incurred if you run into glazing problems from old Victorian homes with 2mm glass panes. It is not legal to use 2mm panes anymore and if you replace one pane with modern and safer glass, then your windows will end up with glass that looks different.

If your glass panes do not match, all your effort to refurbish your sash windows will go to waste. You might as well have everything fixed or replaced to complete the job and make your windows look and run like new.
