In all the countries, there are specific government officials located for examining and making customs clearance process. So whether doing an import or export transaction you do, you should be aware about the various customs clearance procedures.

The costs involved in customs clearance process are of many types and categories. Some of them are standard irrespective of what you are importing or exporting. These include custom declaration form submission fee, screening of goods fee, unloading fee, categorizing fee, fee for submission of your form and other fees if your goods need any special approval.

The business should also be aware about the various reasons due to which the custom clearance department will make the goods hold for long time. For example, if your airway bill is showing a value which is entirely different from the sales invoice that you are showing, then there will be a chance of making your goods stuck in the customs department. So what you should ensure here is to make clear and same value documents and not with any fake documents.

There are specific penalties involved in customs clearance procedure. Wherever there is a violation of rules or the predefined guidelines given, then there will be a penalty for the same. For an example, if your goods are not packed in a proper way or the goods are not properly reported at the time of receipt then all such kind of actions will be considered as violations and will result in penalty. So it is very important for a business or for a person to know the defined guidelines when they do an import or export transaction. There are also some defined percentages of interest payable if the business or the specific person fails to pay the penalty on the defined time deadline.

You need to make sure that you make the process of clearance faster and smoother for you. Smooth clearance has even been made possible by the adoption of electronic clearance systems in the customs departments. All you should know is the requirement for that application in terms of making proper documents in the predefined format etc.

You will need specific documents when clearing goods for import or export. One should know at least the commonly requested documents. Some of them include airway bill, shipping bill, bill of lading, sales invoice, purchase order from the buyer etc. The document that shows the origin of the goods is mandatory for all types of transactions whether import or export.

You should work with the customs officer to make the smooth process of your goods. Whatever the documents required by the officer, all such documents should be readily available with you and you should provide all the clear details. This will help the officer to make fast clearance and also it will be good for you to save more time and effort.

The most common problem that every business faces today is the awareness about the clear customs procedure. So to navigate in a proper way, it is always suggested to move through a customs clearance broker.
