He served this constituency constantly 18 yrs until he became the state executive councilor in 2004. In the yr 2004 he contested the general elections from the Labis Parliamentary seat and also won, this election was contested in coalition of the National Front or Barison Nasional. In this meeting 2 resolutions had been passed, one a vote of no-confidence was passed by 14 votes against Ong Tee Keit and in the other, Dr. Chua's expulsion was reverted. Both did not resign but decided to put their differences aside. Presently some members of the central committee who were led by Mr. Liow Tiong Lai, asked for fresh elections.

Eventually in march 2010, Chua, his supports and a few other members of the central committee supporting Liow Lai, resigned. With the resignation by greater than 2/3rd members of the central committed, the party had no other option but to call for fresh elections. Dr Chua contested in a three-corner fight for Presidency along with Ong Tee Keit and Ong Ka Ting, whereby he emerged victorious. He became the President of MCA.
