The Operation A Bucket Elevator

Accessing top floors of a tall building would not be possible without lifts. Electric lifts also facilitate vertical transport of both light weight and bulky loads. A bucket elevator is a superb conveyor designed to carry loads in an inclined path. This equipment is used in the several industrial sectors. A light weight version of this device is used to serve domestic operations.

This machine comprises of long belts, strong chains, supporting frames and a terminal machinery. It relies on these components to operate effectively. Each component however serves a distinct role in the vertical transportation of loads. For example, terminal machinery facilitates loading and discharging of lumps. Belts on the other hand are long and strong to tie loads that are to be transported in a lift.

This machine can handle fine materials such as sand and cement. This is the reason why most construction sites have container lifts for precisely transporting concrete mixtures up and down a building. Engineers usually exercise caution when utilizing this machine to transport fine materials. To be precise, they ensure that containers are firm in structure because such loads have a tendency of spilling over when they are transported in a high speed.

There are three designs of this equipment used in industrial operations in all parts of the world. The first one is referred to centrifugal discharge because it uses force to transport loads. This design is widely used in agricultural activities such as irrigation of farms. Containers normally discharge a load easily courtesy of centrifugal force. This type of force is exerted at the center of gravity of any material that has weight.

Another design mechanism is continuous discharge. This mechanism applies is based on the viscosity of materials. To be precise, viscous loads can be loaded and transported on a vertical axis courtesy of the continuous discharge mechanism. The speed of operation is however lower when compared to the centrifugal mechanism. Furthermore, the base of containers holding loads is triangle in shape.

The third style is referred to positive discharge. This style is predominant in most food processing firms. This is because machines that work based on the positive discharge style can handle gentle commodities such as processed food. For instance, candy companies incorporate these lifts in their day to day operations for packing and processing sweets. Positive discharge devices comprise of two chains and two pins that enable a lump to swivel freely.

A similar device consisting of even steps is occasionally utilized as an electric lift. This device can be found in modern parking garages and construction sites. It is however deemed unsafe to utilize such lifts because they lack safety appliances. In addition, they are entirely made of metallic objects hence have a potential of causing physical injury to a person.

Centrifugal, continuous and positive discharge lifts have certain limitations. For instance, the lump size is supposed to be less than one hundred millimeters and should not be sticky. The temperature of the load should also be optimum because when lifts are in motion, heat is generated.
