In my eyes, this level of security is one of the greatest, as it will be able to take care of a number of instances, provided the proper technology is set in place. I believe that this is something to take into account, especially since violence has broken out in campuses in the past. Lakeland is one of those areas which have gone about change but it was done for all of the right reasons. With guards being better armed, it not only shows that the school is being mindful of the betterment of everyone but becoming more and more aware of the changing times. Guns might not have been needed before but they may be required now.
Keep in mind, though, that this isn't for the sake of preparing for any violent event that may come about. The worst thing that can be done, as far as this is concerned, is fear-mongering and it should be made clear that these instances are still very few and far between. The idea of guards being armed is precautionary more than anything else. Hopefully this will not only be able to help the individuals who are hired for the job but potentially bring on more workers to strengthen this particular workforce.
