Many experts feel that those who continue to learn new skills throughout their lives have improved brain function. This is drawing a lot of attention from people all over the world. Everyone wants to have a long, happy and healthy life. It may be that the key to this is actually to engage in learning for all ages.

All too many people seem to view the acquisition of knowledge as something that only occurs in a particular setting. These settings are typically schools and colleges. They feel that once they are out of school and into a job or career that there is nothing left to learn. Even on the job training makes them cringe as they do not like to be placed in a position that forces them to deal with new things.

It is a proven fact that parents with higher education are much more involved in their own children's school work. They know first hand how vital it is to get an education. This is what determines what type of job the child will grow up to have and very importantly how much money they will have the capacity to earn.

Taking a class is also a great way to expand on life's experiences and add something new. The class does not always have to be academic in nature. In fact, taking a class on sewing or knitting is a great way to learn a creative skill. These age old traditions are really a dying art and need new people to take them over.

A class on gardening and plant husbandry is also very valuable. Not only will the participants have the chance to grow something, they will also have to learn about the soil and which nutrients each plant needs. They may want to give their own back yard a make over and turn it into their own beautiful outdoor oasis.

Travel is one of the greatest ways to keep the brain active. Planning a trip abroad is the perfect mental workout. It can take a lot of time, effort and energy to plan a successful trip from start to finish. However, this is exactly the sort of challenge that helps to keep a mind sharp. In addition there is the fun of learning a new language and trying it out on the locals.

With all the new technology it is very easy to access information. Practically everyone has access to the internet and a massive amount of material is at our fingertips every day. Sadly many people totally overlook this wonderful aspect of modern life and only use their computer for playing games and chatting on social media sites.

For many people learning for all ages takes a determined effort. Like most things it is a habit that must be cultivated. They must begin by making small changes, such as reading a book every week. Each change creates a building block and these will eventually create a strong foundation for change.
