More so, ensure that you have documented all the conversations and keep all the receipts.

To add on that, ensure that you have also documented all the damages to your home as well as business. Take photos and videos in all the rooms and keep the photos safe. This will come in handy when you contact your homeowner insurance company for compensation. They will use the pictures and estimate the loss before they start the compensation procedure.

Immediately after the catastrophe, you are advised to make any minor adjustments and mending to your home to minimize further damage. This is to avoid incurring more costs during the reconstructions hence make sure that you patch anything that can be patched like boarding broken windows, putting a tarp on a roof that is leaking or removing carpets or wet drywall to prevent mold from forming.

However, you should not make any permanent repairs until your insurance company approves you. Make sure that you have known how the insurance cover will reimburse your costs. More so, ensure that you have read and understood the procedure before you start remodeling the home. In the event the house is unlivable, call the utility company to switch off water and power to avoid further costs.
