Good interior design and sash window refurbishment go hand-in-hand. As most people would agree, this particular style of windows are extremely popular and preferred by most. They are usually smaller in size than other types and they are extremely convenient in terms of their functionality and practicality.

It's easy to decorate when these openings are in place. Very often, many homes have extremely large openings. Others have strange designs that leaves most amateur decorators scratching their heads. They often don't know how to deal with window dressings that are extremely high up in the wall, or what have you.

Sash windows are simple and can be treated with any and all kinds of drapery and blinds. Whether one decides to use thick drapes or sheer fabric, natural fibers like rattan or bamboo, plastic or metal or wooden blinds, there is no limit. Basically, it's just about personal style and taste.

However, it is of essence that these sash windows are protected. That means regular maintenance. For those made of wood, it is the wood that must be protected from the different weather elements. If they are thoroughly looked after, they can last for ever. But, when refinishing with paint or stain, the application must be done with extreme care. Otherwise, it could make opening and closing the window very difficult.

Of course, if they have been changed and are made of PVC or in other material that doesn't require such maintenance, all they need is regular cleaning. If the sash has been damage to some degree, it can still be saved. This can be done by the homeowner or by calling in a specialist.

What's important is that homeowners realize how blessed they are when they have sash windows in place. The home just looks better, in most cases. Obviously, with regards to a period home, it cannot be compared. These go hand in hand. Therefore, refurbishing them is of essence. It will improve the look of the home both inside and outside, and also increase its property value, to some extent.

For those period homes whose windows have been changed to another style, it is of the essence to return them to their original state. By doing so, it will automatically increase the property value. However, to do so correctly, it's in one's best interests to learn and educate oneself about what's on the market. Understanding the differences will provide for decision-making.
