In order to maintain strong business relationships in all economies a company should have good service, remember the customer is always right, have integrity, deliver products on time and base prices on market demand. Following these standards, clients will remain customers in economies which are good or poor.

The best way to maintain a relationship with a customer is to have good customer skills. A company representative should be available when he is needed by the customer. Questions and concerns should be addressed in a timely matter and done satisfactorily to the purchaser. During a poor economy, quality in products and services should be maintained; customer service and quality are closely related.

Remember the first rule taught in any business class, the customer is always right. It is a bit of an ego boost to let the client believe that he is right; it gives him a sense of control over the situation. The customer will be more loyal to a certain company if he is not told that he is wrong; customers who are told they are wrong will flee to the competitor quickly.

Always be honest; folks do not appreciate lying. A really quick way to lose customers is to not be honest. People can tell when there is dishonesty during a conversation. Let the customer know what is going to happen, don't lie to folks, this just makes them angry in the long run.

When filling orders, do it in a timely fashion, be on schedule and get it done when it was promised. A customer has a schedule to keep, if he is waiting on a product to finish a project. This lost time is costing him money, his employees are standing around waiting to work. He will remember this idle time when ready to order for the next project.

Maintain reasonable pricing; in good times and bad, always keep pricing reasonable. Let the market drive pricing; during a strong economy, the product will sell for more. In a poor economy, the product will bring less; less money is certainly better than none. None is what an enterprise will get if it goes out of business.

In order to maintain business relationships, a company should maintain customer service, let the client know they are right, be honest, be timely and maintain reasonable pricing. Follow these standards and clients can be maintained through strong and poor economies.
