If you are a business owner understanding the seriousness of your reputation online is very important to your success. We now live in the digital age and with a few clicks of a mouse decades of hard work can instantly fall apart before your eyes.

In the old days if a distraught customer had something bad to say about your business, nobody really knew about it. If the media or news reported something bad about you and/or your business in a few days it would fade away and nobody would remember it. The customer is often right was a well known saying but wasn't taken seriously.

Welcome To The Digital Age

In the digital age an upset client can post a comment to their Facebook page from their smartphone. Within a few short minutes your clients post can go viral and copied to other blogs and social networking sites. The saying that the client is right is more true now than ever.

The majority of business owners realize that it is important to have an online presense. Those entrepreneurs that are tech savvy will setup a few accounts on a couple of the popular social networking sites, and post 1 or 2 status updates. At the end of the day they do not understand how everything works and they soon give up.

Stop everything right now! I do not want you to take my word, go to the search engines and search for a chiropractor in your area. I guarantee you that the bulk of them have web sites that are outdated. Now type the name of that same business in the search engine trying to find reviews e.g. "XYZ Company Name Review Virginia Beach." Chances are if you repeat this process a couple of times you will discover a business with bad reviews.

Once you have discovered your negative review look at how long it has been there and check to see if anybody has responded to it. Chances are that they have not. In fact I will pretty much assure you that the business owner is unaware of the negative review and is loosing business because of it.

The best thing to do is team up with a pro and have them manage your online reputation management. After all your job is to work on your business and not in your business.
