Working As A Commercial Janitor

A janitor is a person who takes care of buildings with his or her primary responsibility being a cleaner. He or she may carry out maintenance and security duties at times. The word commercial means concerned with or engaged in commerce. Therefore a commercial janitor is a person who takes care of commercial buildings.

This person is in charge of ensuring that the entire building is free from dirt and is organized. Due to this, he or she is contributes immensely to the smooth running of any institution. A lot of institutions depend on these professionals for proper sanitation. Due to this, a lot of businesses have come up to provide this needed duty.

Several business enterprises are starting in most towns and the demand for facilities management services is also on the rise. These entrepreneurs are opting for only the best providers for these services as entrepreneurs deem this to be an integral part to the success of their businesses. Like in other jobs, there are those that take work seriously and are of professional repute, while others are mainly incompetent in their work.

For a building custodian, different paraphernalia are used to ensure effective work is done; these include different technical and basic machines. In some cases, due to the nature of work being done these professionals get insurance cover to protect them in case of accidents. Unlike in most jobs, this one may require one to roll up the sleeves and dig in the dirt.

In every job there are perks. To begin with, the remuneration is quite high. Workers also get the convenience of planning their work schedule. This can be split into a two or three day working week, depending on how much work has been scheduled. For example, one can decide to clean the compound three days a week, while choosing to do other chores on the other days. Networking is also a key benefit since one meets new people hence get new potential business contacts.

Just as there are advantages of having this job, there are also disadvantages. People tend to be careless while in buildings and at times these people leave dirt and garbage lying around making the wok of a janitor very difficult. Children can also be destructive at times. While playing, sometimes drainage pipes and windows are broken.

Anyone can be a janitor, be it male or female. Women mostly take the role of general cleaners because women tend to take cleanliness more seriously than their male counterparts. Seeing that it has a high salary, many people should look at it as a source of employment. Some of these professionals form unions to protect them from abuse from potential employers and also help them gain competitive contracts from prospective employers.

People in this line of work should be admired for the great job their line of work offers and should not be made to feel any less of a person. The labor these people perform in these institutions is of utmost priority thus the person doing this work is very necessary for the ease at which the organization is run. Commercial janitors have formed labor organizations that take care of the needs of the people working in this field. The people who have employed them often offer great remuneration to encourage these workers to always perform better.
