The PPI scandal came to light quite a while ago now but nonetheless it is still very much an on-going area of interest for the media throughout the United Kingdom. The PPI scandal affected a huge amount of people many of whom are still only just discovering that they were mis-sold PPI. Most individual cases run into thousands of pounds which people are still complaining that they are owed. The total amount which lenders wrongfully took from people is unknown but it is well into the billions of pounds.

The number of complaints by people about PPI are still continuing to rise despite the scandal being quite old now but there are numerous reasons why this is the case. PPI is still reported by both print and broadcast media organisations and on a regular basis too. When people hear stories about others receiving back thousands of pounds it often makes them consider their own previous loans, mortgage and credit cards.

One of the main reasons for the number of complaints continuing to rise is that people are having financial problems and so they see it as a potential way of bringing in some more money. Because of this people are trying to claim and hoping that PPI they paid for previously was mis-sold to them. Many aren't even aware whether or not it was mis-sold but are attempting to claim at the off chance that it was.

The PPI scandal has caused a boom in the number of companies claiming that they can help people claim back what they are owed if they were previously mis-sold PPI. Most of these companies don't charge people unless they win whereas some recover their cost from the lenders too. This encourages people to try and claim even if they aren't sure if they were mis-sold PPI or not.

All of the people trying speculatively are doing nothing wrong in doing so as they will not receive any compensation unless they were actually mis-sold PPI previously. People doing this does however highlight the financial difficulty that many people are currently experiencing throughout the United Kingdom.
